Rogue overview

The Rogue is the fastest hero and the most fragile melee class (190 health). It starts with Sinister Strike and builds toward critical strikes "that delete elites". Subtlety's Cheat Death milestone is the class's safety net: a killing blow leaves you at 25% health and untouchable for 3 sec, once every 2.5 minutes.

Strengths

  • Fastest movement in the roster
  • High burst against elites and bosses
  • Cheat Death and Kidney Shot / Gouge for control

Watch out for

  • Only 190 starting health while fighting in melee
  • Mistakes are punished quickly before talents come online

Rogue spell pool

Every level-up deals three cards. A new spell card takes one of your 6 spell slots; an upgrade card improves a spell you already know and ranks it up. Card rarity (Common, Uncommon, Rare, Epic, Legendary) decides how strong the bonus is. These are the 11 spells the Rogue can be offered:

  1. Sinister StrikeStarting spell
  2. EviscerateEarly pick
  3. Blade FlurryEarly pick
  4. Rupture
  5. Kidney Shot
  6. GougeEarly pick
  7. Ghostly Strike
  8. Adrenaline RushEarly pick
  9. Backstab
  10. Slice and DiceEarly pick
  11. Seal Fate

Early picks are our suggestions for a first run. Spells cast on their own: you only move, and each spell fires when it is off cooldown and enemies are in range.

Rogue talent trees

Talents are permanent and per class. Every run pays your Rogues talent experience (time survived, kills, bosses, a win, and more in harder zones); the first point arrives at 80 experience and a class can earn 51 points. A new row opens for every 5 points spent in a tree, and the milestones at 10, 20 and 30 points change how your spells behave. Respecs are free, and the Armory keeps three specs.

Values written as X grow with each rank; the game shows the exact number when you point at a talent. Use theRogue talent calculator to plan points.

Best race for a Rogue

Racials cast on their own, so they matter more here than in the original game. The Rogue can be: Human, Dwarf, Night Elf, Gnome, Orc, Undead, Troll.

Horde

Orc

Hardiness (+10% max health) covers the low pool; Blood Fury adds burst.

Horde

Undead

Will of the Forsaken gives 4 sec of immunity near death (60 sec cooldown) and Cannibalize heals 1 per kill.

Alliance

Night Elf

Shadowmeld is a second cheat-death, and Quickness makes the fastest hero faster.

Rogue gear set and weapons

Bosses drop Rogue gear that stays with the class for good: 54 pieces across nine slots and six rarities, from Elwynn Forest commons to Naxxramas legendaries. The set name changes with each tier:

Footpad'sShadowcraftNightslayerBloodfangBonescythe

Weapon lines:

Worn DaggerAssassin's BladeShadowcraft DirkBlackwing ShivThunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker
Rusty ShivThief's BladeNightslayer KrisFang of the FacelessKingsfall

Where each tier drops: gear and drop tables.

A first Rogue run

Use speed rather than health: dart into the edge of a group, hit, and leave. Blade Flurry makes Sinister Strike and Eviscerate hit extra enemies.

Pick a race from the list above, enter Elwynn Forest, and aim to see the first boss, Hogger, at 3:00. Even a short run pays talent experience. Compare with the other classes: Warrior, Paladin, Hunter, Priest, Shaman, Mage, Warlock, Druid.

FAQ

How much health does the Rogue start with in Azeroth Survivors?

190 health. That is #7 of 9 classes; the range runs from 165 (Warlock) to 245 (Paladin). Every level then adds 9 maximum health, 3% damage and 0.08 health per second.

What spell does the Rogue start with?

Sinister Strike. Every level-up deals three cards from the Rogue's 11-spell pool, and a new spell takes one of 6 spell slots.

What are the Rogue capstone talents?

Toxic Bloom (Assassination), Killing Spree (Combat), Shadow Dance (Subtlety). A capstone needs 30 points in its tree; a class can earn 51 talent points in total.

Which race is best for a Rogue?

There is no fixed best race, but Orc and Undead and Night Elf have the most useful racials for this class: Hardiness (+10% max health) covers the low pool; Blood Fury adds burst.

Is the Rogue good for beginners?

We rate it Hard to learn. Low health or melee range make early mistakes costly; play a Warrior or Paladin first if you want an easier start. This is our assessment of starting health, range and self-protection, not a win-rate ranking.
